I agree. They should be made to pay taxes!

I support this idea. I pay my taxes so should they.

@Largo64 I agree also and I attend church but I think that every other group which is not taxed has to get the same axe job including all leftist wing agendas which money is given to planned parenting should be axed aboriginals should loose their status etc...what is good for the goose is good for the gander...no one should be exempt from paying taxes as this great north America has become a welfare state....I say leave only the elderly tax exempt the retired!

...I don't care if the church is taxed but I think big corporations and natives should all be treated the same way and we shouldn't have to pay taxes for the leftist agenda either...this means every tax exempt group looses their status what is fair is fair and no more giving money to the obsurd either...why should I pay for abortion clinics or other agendas...if minority groups were not governed off my tax dollars my country would not be broke period...the majority should be governed!

So I'm confused. The tax paying thing makes sense, but when a person or even a group gives money to charity can't it be a tax write off or whatever it's called. I'm just thinking that even if some do pay taxes cuz of the free speech thingy wouldn't they still be able to get around it by donating money to specific charitable organizations. I do not really know anything about tax laws though. It's hard enough for me just to figure out how to do my own taxes.

I agree with you completely but for slightly different reasons. When the state decides when a church/denomination is a valid religious group then that is a violation of separation of church and state. The state is sanctioning religion. Unless that church can prove that they perform a charitable function in their community then I say tax them. When you think about it, they should be offering charity to those in need anyway if they arent already.

I agree that churches should be taxed, exempting only their charitable activities.

i love it. count me in!

the point is this they have 100 of millions of bucks they aint short of a buck or two ?they are businesses ,when they ruled europe they taxed the people hard ,they turned the masses into slaves ,tax em ?and they give to charity for the tax relief period ?

I tend to agree with you on this.

Go ahead and block me. I've already blocked you! I said nothing racist, I called you white. So what!? That is your skin color. I'm white too. (in the winter) And then I'm brown in the summer. Who cares? Go hug a tree and Grow up!

You are pretty presumptuous. I did not appreciate the slur regarding my mixed heritage unless you don't think calling me "Pocahontas" was a slur. Get out of here with your racist self.

I say congress needs to get off their "I want to do what right for me over the country" high horsed and do away with the Income Tax. Instead have a 10% federal sales tax. Therefore, everyone gets taxed equally across the board and we don't have to do any pencel pushing at "tax time". It's already done at the cash register.

I agree with that but it would not solve this problem. Non profit organizations get a tax exempt number and their tax is removed at the cash register. We would still be subsidizing churches.

Well I'll partly agree with you, I believe any charity done by a church should be exempt.. Meals on wheels, soup kitchens seeing I doubt we tax charities themselves like the Red Cross. So they should at least be on equal grounds charity wise.
As for a direct tax on the church it may be warranted but I'd suggest baby steps & tax anything over a certain amount. I believe as an individual your able to give 10,000 as a gift to another person.

You sound reasonable. But at the bare basic minimum they should pay property tax. There presence is denying communities from collecting tax on valuable property that would otherwise be taxed. Why should communities be forced to provide free public services to churches? Why should non church members be forced to underwrite those free services? That is clearly unfair. And, communities can no longer afford to subsidize them. Too many communities are on the brink of bankruptcy. Churches should pay
