I modified this Canon 1000D (XS) DSLR by removing its two internal filters and replaced them with a multi-coated diffraction limited clear glass. The video shows using the camera for daytime infrared photography with a Hoya R72 filter and for normal photography with a color correcting filter. • Since when did this camera do video filming???

  • Many third-party softwares allow video to be recorded if you are connected to a notebook/netbook. I used the free software "EOS Camera Movie Record" for this video. Gary

  • If I remove the low pass filter #1 and the IR block filters and do not install anything (clear glass) the phase detect auto focus will not work but will the contrast auto focus in live view still work?

  • It depends on what you are imaging with. If using the camera with a telescope or spotting scope, you can use the scope's focuser to adjust the focus point to a position in which the phase detect auto focus can function. Since you are asking about removing both original filters and replacing them with nothing, some camera lenses may not be able reach focus at or near infinity. In that case the phase detect auto focus would fail to reach focus because focused light is never reaching the sensor.

  • Another question, what happens if you remove the IR cut filter and replace it with clear glass (or just leave it out and loose autofocus) but leave the low pass filter 1 (the piezoeletric anti-dust element)? What wavelengths does that filter block?

  • The frontmost Canon filter (Low pass filter #1) has been found to block infrared wavelengths as well so it needs to be removed, along with low pass filter #2, to modify a camera for Full Spectrum.
