cutting wires is exactly what i'm going to do. getting the case opened is the hardest part. 2 ebay-quality tools destroyed, still can't open it.

@bfou73 It's been awhile since I replaced mine so it its best if you check the current prices using Google.

The tool is cheap but it works. It some takes patience and persistence. I have fixed several iPods and the first one, of course, was the most difficult but then it gets easier.
Find an area around the iPod where the tool can go in and work that area loose then move on to the other sides until it will finally open.

When you buy the battery, it should come with a small plastic tool that is used to pry open the iPod. It takes a little patience and some effort but you will be rewarded with a cool, rejuvenated iPod.

@marlonss hay man my ipod went thru the wash a week later i plugged it in and it worked fine as long as its pluged in once i unplug it its screwed

@SLIMSHADY1357 I would open it up and/or let it dry out longer. There may be moisture in the iPod causing the charging circuitry to short.
