Rendez-vous Houston (Part 1 of 6) - Jean Michel Jarre

April 5th 1986, at 8.15pm, Downtown Houston is aflame. A kilometer long wall of skyscrapers is illuminated by DCA projectors, fireworks and beamed images. Over one and a half million people witnessed for the very first time an entire city in concert.

... Jean Michel Jarre's commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Houston and Texas, and of the 25th anniversary of NASA, was one of the most spectacular concerts in the history of music.

... Rendez-vous Houston: A City In Concert gained an entry in the Guiness Book Of Records for having attracted the largest audience ever for an outdoor concert.

... The event is also dedicated to the memory of the astronauts who perished in the Challenger tragedy. One of them, Ron McNair, astronaut and saxophonist, should have interpreted "Ron's Piece" in space (a title specially composed for him - it was to have become the first musical piece played and recorded in space.)

The bigest concert in the world. A laser/light show that is going to use...downtown buildings as the stage... Hahaha yeah 23 years later, this is still the best show ever been made !!! Thx Jean Michel !! 5 Stars !!!

I watched this on tv In Horndean with my old friend Karin Wagner, amazing, thanks for posting this, I have often told people about that weird car at 10:08 but never thought I would see it again. What a show.

I was privileged/cursed to work on this event for nearly a year, and I have to admit that all these years later it still amazes me that it actually happened and how truly awesome it really was. An even more fascinating documentary would be the the TRUE behind the scenes story. There was so much craziness that this video doesn't even touch on, like the Houston fire marshall pounding on the control booth door of the fireworks director trying to stop the fireworks in the middle of the show!
