This Chinese New Year Celebration was performed by Au's Shaolin Arts Society...a tradition that has spanned over 26 years here on Maui.

Everyone enjoyed the magical Lion Dance ceremonies, full of hope and excitement for the year to come. The Lions are considered mythical beings, as there are no lions in China.

During the ceremony the lions are attracted by firecrackers and drumming. The crowd then feeds donation envelopes to the lions. Finally the lion eats a head of lettuce to gain the final donation, a transfer of energy that teaches everyone the lesson that you can not get something for nothing. You must give to recieve.

There was plenty of excitement, energy and Aloha at this year's celebration. Mahalo to everyone who came out to be a part of it all.
