the kipp is a more functional movement. and generates and develops more overall power. in a strict pullup ones head travels the same distance form full hang to to chin over the bar, so with that being said kipping pullups can be done much faster while moving the same distance. so if one was to do 20 strict pullups and 20 kipps for time the kipps would be about twice as fast. making them a much more powerful movement. speed and strength all components of power

@sophi32 Do 20 overhead presses vs 20 overhead presses bending your knees, of course the knee bender will win, but that doesn't in any way translate to increasing arm power, it just takes the target muscles out of the exercise.

@joshhillis Box jumps are to barbell squats as plyometric pullups are to weighted pullups. Kipping pullups are the pullup equivalent to squatting an inch down, because that's about as much lats as you're engaging.

You should be saying "IM A MONKEY"

Looks weird. I'd feel like people would accuse me of having Parkinson's, or I'd snap my neck doing this.

This is a terrible way to do pull-ups. Very bad for your joints.

You are kipping correctly but that is a bad explanation in my opinion. You forgot the push yourself away from the bar at the top. Also, according to the crossfit website it shoud go foward,back,pull-up so the pull-up is on the backswing.

Thanks man. I had done some research after posting my comment and found a lot of info on crossfit. Thanks for the response.
Why would you do Kipping pull ups rather than regular pull ups? It seems like with the Kipping, you are just using momemtum much more, so can naturally do higher reps, but really, what's the point?

Kipping pullups are to strict weighted pullups.
What box jumps are to barbell squats.
They're a completely different exercise.
If I have a day where I do barbell front squats, straight legged deadlifts, weighted dips and weighted pullups, that would be a strength day.
If I had a day where I was doing box jumps, clapping pushups, kipping pullups, and kettlebell swings - all in sets of 30, in circuits - you could call that a strength endurance day. Or "cardio".

what is the name of that indian song in the backround

The track is the DJ Khaira's remix of 50 Cent's "In Da Club". DJ Khaira says these days the music he remixes with is 100% origional, so I'm assuming the background is his creation.
