  • I'm surprised you didn't include any of DC's Challengers of the Unknown, the only time that I'm aware of that Wood inked Jack Kirby's pencils...sublime comic art

  • I used from the various Wood images I had. Also I was going with totaly Wood or Wood pencils. Though we both know Wood inked Kirby a few articles didn't list his inks over Kirby.

  • thank, thanks, thanks!

  • @theshadow1932 I would agree, the Kirby/Wood combination is my all time favorite in comic art. Dick Ayers was really good too.

There's an article about ithe strip on wikipedia and you can find a couple of collections on Amazon. Kirby and Wood were a great team. Wood really brought Kirbys' pencils to life; giving them an organic, naturalistic quality that no inker since Simon even approached.

  • @theshadow1932 wow, thanks, I would love to see those old comics.

  • @pretorious700 Actually, he and Kirby did the 'Sky Masters' strip together.

  • Actually, I think the Superman theme is appropriate. He always wanted to draw the character, and in fact inked Superboy, drew the golden age Superman in All-Star JSA, and did the MAD parody. Woody and Al WIlliamson are my favorite comic artists.

  • Yes, Wally copyrighted and trademarked Sally Forth. So how, then, did a newspaper comic strip come out a little while back called Sally Forth?

I doubt that the same trick could have been pulled in the newspapers after Joe and Jerry passed, with some newbie printing a strip called Superman!

BTW, loved the vid, but there were a couple glitches, like one of those Daredevil covers was by Gene Colan. And to bring up Superman again, why use the Superman movie theme? Wally never drew Superman!

  • W. Wood was awesome. To look at his work in black and white - it's simply amazing. Cool montage!
