I cant believe that GSP had so much respect for Shields' BJJ that even with a messed up eye, he decided not to take the fight to the ground. Something that we all know GSP would have done against anyone else.

Considering that the fight went 100% GSPs way, much respect for Shields for doing alot more damage than most thought.

It was a very close fight (48-47) for having been fought entirely on the feet. And Shields landed more "significant strikes" as recorded by Fight Metric & Comp-Strike, (by a small amount)

GSP trainer said in post fight interview " we wanted to stay away from Shields as much as possible because if you get close he will take you down"

GSP went from counter punching to back peddling.

Didn't bang, but it cost him, Shields striking is awkward but effective & he won the 4th & 5th, damage & aggression
