לרגליו של ההר,
לחופו של נהר
היא ישבה לבדה,
התדעו מה סודה?
הירדן אז שתק,
החרמון שוב צחק,
רק סיפרה השתיקה
כי היא לו מחכה.
אז רחש ירדן בחלל עוד נשמע
ורחש בכיה של ילדה, אשר שמה -
כנרת, כנרת, כנרת
הרוח לך שר, הרוח לך שר.
ושמש ירדן לך זוהרת,
שוקעת בהר, בהר.
כך חולפות השעות
ועוברות השקיעות,
וכל ערב עצוב
אז קורא לה לשוב.
אבל היא פה תשב
והרוח נושב,
ים דמעות אז ישטוף
מלחייה אל החוף.
אז רחש ירדן, סביב עוד נשמע...
לאורו של היום
לא ראינו פתאום
את דמותה מול ההר,
לחופו של נהר.
מול ירדן וגליו,
מול חרמון ושלגיו,
רק בכיה עוד נותר,
אבל הוא לא חזר.
אז רחש ירדן, סביב עוד נשמע
על ים הדמעות שקראו לו בשמה
כנרת, כנרת, כנרת
הרוח לך שר, הרוח לך שר.
ושמש ירדן לך זוהרת,
שוקעת בהר, בהר.
