Sonoma Dec 12, 2009 Steadicam workshop with Charles Papert. Thanks to Trevor Meeks for organizing this. Had a blast, met great new friends and learned a lot from the workshop, now time to practice.

Flying Canon XHA1 in low mode using Sled from flycam 6000 and a vest/arm from Hollywood lite.
Please give me a break, I know footage not sooooo great but considering my lousy rig while everyone else had a pilot or a flyer and the fact that it is my second time ever flying, I would say not too bad :)
I need to practice keeping my back straight.

  • this was very good. Just shows, with the effort you put in and the time you spent, even your second time flying a relatively bad rig can produce really great results. Really,, that is something I would find impressive in a film in the theatres. my biggest criticism would be that I didn't like the angle when you pointed the camera at his feet whist moving from behind him to in front of him.

    other than that great job!

  • The lighting was a lot better on the making of section than the actual steadicam footage, if the lighting was better, it would have turned out better, but it wasnt bad!

  • @meeksdigital

thanks Trevor for responding. Nice behind the scene footage bro. We have to do more of that next workshop.

  • Low mode is specifically for lower angles or if you are on a higher platform (shooting from a car, etc.)

the rig balances the same - you're basically just changing your gimbal position to obtain the same drop time in the inverted position.

btw I'm the camera op on the BTS shots :)

we had a blast over that weekend - and thanks again Hisham for posting this video!

  • why were you flying it upside down, is it to get a lower shot, or does it balance better that way?

  • I was going to go to this!!! But my Merlin didn't qualify for the workshop :(.

  • Outstanding! That was some smooth flying. You know I'd be eternally grateful if you somehow managed to send me EVERYTHING that was filmed and photographed on the 7D those two days. That workshop was a lot of fun, hope everyone finds the time to practice before the next one! Oh, this is William by the way.

  • Thanks bro.

  • Thanks bro. Your behind the scenes footage was so good, I think it was even better than the actual steadicam footage :)

  • Awesome dude!!! I love how you cut between the "making of" and what your XHA1 saw!
