This test is in response to a request for a CPM test of the latest sample.
A preliminary test has also been carried out in which a 1.5mm stainless steel pad was placed between the Geiger counter and the sample resulting in a reading which was almost entirely reduced to background levels. This might imply that the bulk, if not all, of the radiation from this sample is coming from alpha or beta emitters (but most likely not gamma emitters) within the package as the outside of the seaweed package has been thoroughly wet wiped to ensure that the contamination is not due to any particles present on the exterior of the packaging.
As a side note: Several other kinds and brands of commercially available seaweed have been preliminarily tested with the Inspector Alert geiger counter and revealed levels less than half of what the two samples thus far featured exhibit.
Just the bag would stop all alpha radiation. The contaminant is probably mostly Cs137.
