Video highlights of an unbelievable 6 day trek up Venezuela's Mt. Roraima.

At approximately 2800m Roraima is the highest of the tepui (tabletop mountains) in the Gran Sabana region of Venezuela, and is neighboured by the equally impressive Mt. Kukenan. The triple boarder point between Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana is situated on the top of Roraima, although on foot this point is only accessible from Venezuela. The area, and particularly Roraima, is said to have provided the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novel "The Lost World".

  • Amazing!

How many days have you stayed in top of the Mount Roraiva?

  • @samoahaka

We camped on top of Roraima for 2 nights giving us 1&1/2 days to explore the summit.

  • How amazing!!! I am currently planning a trip there and I have two questions.

1st: What time of the year did you go?

2nd: How much did you pay for the 6-day-trip from Santa Elena with Geodyssey?

    Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Hi! Thanks for your comments. I went in November which meant that the weather was good, (but it also meant that there wasn't so much water coming over Angel Falls later in my trip). I guess it's a compromise you'll have to decide between. On top of Roraima itself it's typical to see all weather types in one day, with rain, mist, wind and perfect sun taking turns every few hours.

My trip with Geodyssey was organised from the UK. It included the Roraima trek plus a trip to Angel Falls & to Margarita Island so it's hard to say how much Roraima cost. Geodyssey wasn't a budget option & there are cheaper operators out there, particularly if you book locally in Santa Elena. However, I felt that we received excellent value for money, especially in terms of quality and quantity of food on the trek, and a guide who was head and shoulders above any other groups'.

  • how did you do this trek - hire a guide or organized tour etc ?

  • @billyiddo

We organised our trip through a company called Geodyssey. Everything ran to plan & the guide they hired was absolutely superb. I'd really recommend them.

Its not permitted to trek Roraima without a guide due to the conditions on top of the mountain.

NB:The cheapest way to arrange it is locally in Venezuela, from the nearby town of Santa Elena. Here several companies offer group trips (<12 tourists) or alternatively you can hire guides (& porters) independently.

    Hope that helps.
