The Electoral College is another stroke of brilliance from the founding fathers. If the outcome of the 2000 election had gone the other way, you liberal idiots wouldn't be bitching about it. I love it when slack-jawed nobodies try to think, and then post the sad results onto Youtube.

National Popular Vote is an extremely bad idea. The candidates would do nothing more than campaign in population hot spots like the Northeast and California. Is that fair?

they're called "swing states" meaning they can go either way in an election, so people go to those places more to persuade them

@jamespbrown1987 It is a democracy, but it is a certain kind of democracy. It just isnt a direct democracy. Republics are a form of democracy.

@BlueIndy1 DID YOU JUST SWALLOW SOMETHING WHITE AND MILKY ?

@jamespbrown1987 It's no longer a constitutional republic either. It's currently somewhere in between an oligarchy and a corporatocracy.

@taiji218 @jamespbrown1987 The United States is not a constitutional republic. It WAS a constitutional republic, but no longer is.
Vast portions of the Constitution are no longer in effect. In the Bill of Rights alone, 9 of 10 have been largely or completely abolished through legislation and judicial decisions and executive branch actions. The same is true of much of the rest of the Constitution.
I will not be celebrating Bill of Rights Day tomorrow. For me, it is a day to mourn.
The American system is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy, if you attach meaning to terms, is a system of unlimited majority rule; the classic example is ancient Athens. And the symbol is the fate of Socrates, who was put to death legally, because the majority didn't like what he was saying, although he had initiated no force and had violated no one's rights.

@jamespbrown1987 The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. In such a system majority rule is applicable to lesser details, such as the selection of certain personnel. But the majority has no say over the basic principles governing the government.
