This is an orchestral arrangement of the penultimate song in the set 'Fourteen Tolkien Songs for Children's Voices'.

The text of the poem to which this music was originally a setting can be found on pages 388-9 of 'The Fellowship of the Ring', being Volume 1 of 'The Lord of the Rings' by J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Allen and Unwin, 1954.

The poem beings with the words:
'I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew...'
And ends:
'But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,
What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?'
