Author Melissa Macdonald is interviewed by Lisa Wilkinson of the Today Show Channel 9. Melissas book Breastfeeding:Real Mums Tell You How is available online at www.breastfeedingbook.com.au or in leading book retailers
She didn't mention how getting the baby breastfeeding within 20 minutes of birth is one of the most important things in establishing breastfeeding. As soon as the baby comes out it should be placed on moms' chest and left there for at least an hour, not touched or cleaned or anything. Mom and baby need to spend that first hour getting to know each other, cuddling, and breast feeding. It gets harder and harder to learn the longer you wait to try it after the birth.
It was a 2:36 segment she can hardly talk about every possible thing to get breast feeding underway, the point of this was to sell her book too!
its good to see breast feeding as a topic on tv full stop.

The first 6 weeks are critical but I dried up at 6 weeks and my baby got sick and stopped gaining weight...sad but I had to feed my baby someway
