A question on a crochet forum (http://www.crochetville.org) inspires this video. I talk about my dad and show you that one handed crochet is possible.

  • I have to say, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" My daughter has brachial plexus palsy, which has severely affected her right arm from birth. We have been trying to learn some way for her to crochet. We had thought perhaps a clamp used in some way would help (you know the kind of clamp that woodworkers use attached to a side of a table). We could not figure it out. Thank you so much for sharing your insight and experience. This has helped us tremendously. Thank you. :)

  • @tanyageyer1 I am glad to have been of some help to you - if she decides to take up crochet, I would love to see some of her finished work. I hope she posts it on YouTube :)

  • @askmisscris Your idea is successful. She already finished a line of chain and 2 rows of single crochet. We ended up pulling it out because we need the yarn for a puff ball for a hat we made a while back, so I don't have it to show, but she has already chosen a project and perhaps soon she will be able to show it. Thank you so much again. :) I am very grateful.

  • @tanyageyer1 Fantastic! I cannot wait to see her finished project :)

  • Your Dad sounds a lot like my Mom. She was born with Cerebral Palsy. She had a withered hand. She wanted to crochet, but couldn't figure out how to do it. She did sewing, quilts and lots of other crafts. I wish I knew about loom knitting when she was alive. She did use a spool loom and made braided rugs.

You are wonderful for trying to figure it out.

  • @Bethintx1 There is a lot to learn from determined people, with or without physical restrictions. My dad refused to believe there was anything he could not do.

If you have any of her pieces, I would love to see them. I haven't tried spool looms yet.

  • @askmisscris Sadly they are all long gone. I'll have to ask my son if he still has the teddy bear she made for him.
