Rogue businessman George Speight and seven masked gunmen stormed the Fiji Parliament on 19 May 2000 and held the elected government of Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry hostage for 56 days. University of the South Pacific journalism students covered the crisis. This video tells the story of their coverage on Pacific Journalism Online for the first 10 days - until the university temporarily shut down their website on May 29. Their coverage continued on the University of Technology, Sydney, journalism website. In December 2000, the USP students and Pacific Journalism Online were awarded the the coveted Dr Charles Stuart Prize at the annual Ossie Awards for student journalism in Australia. • @nubianking1970 I see.

  • @Killayut Actually the Indians don't control the government, the governments is basically controlled by the council of chiefs, however Indians own the small businesses.

  • @Killayut But the Indians control the government. How come ?

  • @Killayut Actually they are not, The fijian controll more than 83 percent of the land.

  • @nubianking1970 And are now taking over the land from the natives.

  • @Killayut They came as indenture laborers during the colonial period, when fiji was under the british crown.

  • How did East Indians get to Fiji ?

  • These Fiji-Indian unity came into play.Another East Indian escorted me out with a whiteman & harassed me outside for doing nothing.Cops came took me but couldn't charge due to evidence LOL!What I saw that day was these WANABE HI-CLASS people will only talk about bigthings but when it comes to acting big these Fiji-Indians are ZERO.They didn't have the endeavor to ask or to intervene or prove an innocence.IF THEY ARE LIKE THIS WITH 1 PERSON THAN WHAT CAN THEY DO FOR FIJI WITH THOUSANDS???Joke!

  • The funny thing is that these fiji-indians seen all over the world don't have a unison amongst themselves. They ran away from Fiji & instead of going to India they go to Whiteman's land, there's nothing wrong but it only reflects how tightly bound they are to their heritage-India,The Inspiration,Gandhi etc. Here in Vancouver,an Indian was being wrongfully harassed & detained by some white guards because he is handsome & getting female attention-what a reason for detainment.

  • i neva saw this.
