A public service announcement for Caller-ID
Tim might wanna kill me for putting this up but here's our first short film together, shot in 1999 using a Sony DVX1000 camcorder. I edited the short on the Frankenstein DEC Alpha RISC workstation + PAR (Personal Animation Recorder) I had at the time, running the Windows version of Adobe Premiere 5.1c through the (fairly amazing) FX32 emulator from DEC.
You might be able to tell, we wrote the script in one quick sitting. It was really kind of academic since we were mostly interested in what kind of imagery we could achieve with the camera and if we could even create a coherent visual narrative.
We had a budget of almost nothing, using mostly stuff and people that'd be free, like our own apartments and friends + family for talent. Looking back, I don't know why we didn't come up with the idea to black-out the windows (like we did with Sick Boy) so that we didn't have to shoot it all at night. Live and learn.
Many special thanks to John "stjohn" Courte for the killer retro score.
