The Dance

The dance we shared, beneath the stars above,~

If I could have one day back, one day in my life that was worth more than all the others, I'd take back the night of the Yule Ball. People dressed beautifully, dancing around and around, laughing merrily, perfectly content with their lives. So blissfully unaware of the tragedy that lay before them.

~For a moment all the world was right,~

If I had known, I would have enjoyed the dance more.

If I had known, I would have told her how beautiful she looked.

If I had known then, I would have told her I loved her.

~How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye?~

Now I'm stuck here in this netherworld, not content enough to move on, still hanging on to the life I should have had.

~And now I'm glad I didn't know,
The way it all would end,

Our lives are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd of had to miss the dance.~

I didn't deserve to die. I was a good kid, well-liked by all. I made decent grades, gave my all as a Seeker, honestly cared for my girlfriend, and worked hard for the things I got. My death was senseless.

For a moment wasn't I the king?~

Sometimes I blame Potter. He was the one that convinced me to take the Quidditch Cup. But he, like me, was just trying to do the right thing.

And sometimes the right thing is what gets you killed.

~But if I'd only known how the king would fall,

you know I might have changed it all.~

So here I am, stuck in a moment that I can't escape. I could watch the world, see how my loved ones are doing, but with the war, it depresses me too much.

Instead I watch the night of the Yule Ball. I've watched it a thousand times over. I can't help it.

I watch her and see the love in her eyes. I see my love for her in my eyes. We just twirled around and around, completely oblivious to everyone but ourselves.

What a perfect night it was.

Yes. That's the night I would take back.

I'd take back our dance.

I never regret the dance because I know you loved me all the way from seattle. I'm so sorry we missed the dance at our own wedding because it was all about me. Everything was all about me. And I slowly suffocated you til you left. Remmkber you said our lives were better left to God? Remember our last pizza date before you moved to Seattle? Remember I will always love you.
