Sunday March 7 Amsterdam film theatre De Uitkijk, in collaboration with Caribbean Creativity, presented a Nice Time Film Bonanza. During this exciting movie afternoon two productions of film and music company Nice Time Productions were exhibited, with Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast? as the main screening. Nice Time is a young and emerging Spanish/Jamaican production company founded by Miguel Galofré and Fernando Guereta which captures the vitality and creativity of Jamaican culture and society in unique ways.

Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast? marks the first documentary made by Nice Time Productions. The 60-minute film tries to find an explanation for the achievements of the Jamaican sprinters at the Beijing Olympics. The documentary also shows the responses and emotions of the people in Jamaica during and after their victories. Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast? contains interviews with all the sprinters, their coaches, and their fans, and is guided by an original reggae soundtrack.

Galofré and Guereta are currently working on their second documentary, Hit Me With Music, about contemporary reggae and dancehall culture in Jamaica. We will showcase a unique sneak preview of the documentary, which features Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Yellow Man, Elephant Man, Queen Ifrica, Mighty Crown, Tripple XXX, and many others.

Besides Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast? and Hit Me With Music, the Film Bonanza consisted of a Q&A with the filmmakers. Before and after the screening each spectator received a refreshing Carib beer, a delightful Viña Esmeralda Flow.er wine, and different self-made Caribbean snacks by Cherry-Ann Jack.

The Nice Time Film Bonanza also marked the starting shot of Afrikan Vibrations, a cultural project aimed at stimulating roots reggae in the Netherlands. The finishing line is a major concert of Rita Marley and Midnite in Amsterdam in May/June 2010.

The film event was organized by Caribbean Creativity, a Dutch foundation dedicated to the promotion of Caribbean film culture. Caribbean Creativity mainly focuses on exhibiting Caribbean films at events and festivals in the Netherlands and supporting promising film productions from/about the Caribbean (diaspora). The event was sponsored by Parker & Hartfeet, brand owner of several high quality liquor brands and Hotel Steel, a designer B&B hideaway in the center of Amsterdam.
