The Santa Claus Lie

Santa is the personification of altruistic generousity, just as god is the personification of good & the devil is the personifacation of evil. Telling child about one fictional character helps them to recognise fiction when they see it.
The fact that some people will twist a lovely story, using it to try & keep you in your place, is also useful in teaching them about the evil possibilities of religion.
There is a time for fact & a time for fiction, as long as the two are clearly defined.

Just wanted to add, I'm a life long atheist, but I still celebrate at Yuletide, because it's fun. I told my kids about Santa as well, he brings you presents because he loves kids & wants them to be happy.
You don't always get what you want, but it's the thought that counts, he doesn't HAVE to give you anything.
You don't have to be good to get your presents, you get them because you are loved. It is mean lie to tell them that they'll get what they want if they only behave.
Thank you x x

Agreed!!

People can't deal with the real world so they create stupid imaginary friends.
-
I didnt either....

To me as a child, it was rather the idea of not playing conforming adults and what follows, but pretending a big love and magic for a day which most people carry inside anyway. Later it struck me, that 1 day out of 365 days is too little attention on "good" and someone obviously have censored a lot of "goodness" on this planet.

It's called imagination. Not all of life is about trying to find rationality and "the meaning of life". It's the thing that seperates Humans from the rest of the creatures on this planet. While you spend your entire life teaching your kids to be miniature Galileos and DaVincis, I'll teach my kids that altough life is what it seems your mind can be used for more than questioning. I'm just glad you aren't god or whatever created us because it'd be bland as hell.
-
George Bernard Shaw was more rational than most human beings will ever be, same with Bertrand Russell. Both saw Communism as the only way to bring peace on earth. Shaw was way ahead of his time. He was talking about gas chambers well before anyone else. A very rational human being too.

wow 1 minute 26 I will never get back...
-.-

@woodyaan It boggles my mind why people lie so blatantly and so transparently... obviously without engaging their brains.
If children know Santa is a fictional character, then there is no reason to lie to them and tell them he's real if they know better.
Are you drunk?
It's rhetorical. Spare me another idiotic response.
-
@911dispatcherofhell-- Children are not idiots like you are. They know Santa is a fictional character , however he comes from a real story of Saint Nicolas. And, of course , retarded idiots don’t know any language- English , no- English. I attack this anti-Catholic person, for he said about Saint Nicolas showing his protestant-blasphemous view.
All your thinking ability is = 0, for you are EVIL!
-
You're an atheist. You lie to yourself so it's understandable that you think it's ok to lie to your kids.
Neither are ok, but it's your life. Too bad you're depriving your children of the knowledge of God.
It's a perfect picture of delusional thinking:
Tell them Santa is real and Jesus isn't.
Santa has never answered a prayer. Jesus has answered billions and I've seen hundreds of them, including many physical miracles.
Please don't respond. You have nothing.
-
@burns83 Are you suggesting that lying to your children is supporting child-likeness? Nonsense!
Santa isn't a requirement to be child like.
I remember when my sister told me there was no Santa. I got very angry at her and turned to my mother and appealed to her to tell my sister to quit lying to me. My mother was silent. Finding Santa wasn't real wasn't a great disappointment. The great disappointment was finding out my mother had lied to me.
How smart do you need to be to understand that?
-
@woodyaan You should seek help. You have a serious problem understanding spoken English.
His remarks about Satan... er... I mean Santa, were focused on confronting parents with the fact that lying to your children is not a good thing.
He's right and you're wrong. Get a grip on reality. If you had children and you told them Santa is real, you're a liar and you deceived your children. Deal with it and repent. Jesus said "all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire..." You think He lied?
-
Why do you need to go there?
Santa Clause is a prototype of Saint Nicolas , as you said, one correction;
HE IS NOT DEAD!
He is in Heaven, and in Heaven people are alive.
Religion is one thing you should not go there. YOU DON”T KNOW ANYTHING about it.
If you are anti-Christian and atheist - you can not be given any credit at all.
Whom you are working for anyways?
Devil?

I think Mike had a rough experience with this. My parents just layed the presents on midnight 'christmas'.
Even thou there was a time when i questiones everything, my decisions weren't made on a Santa issue. We gotta remember that kids are kids and supresing their childness could be dangerous to them and what they surround.
-
@yuriatayde lol. i love these comments.
-
"he can stare into your sooooooooooooool" lol
-
I never lied to my kid(s) about Santa...never regretted it either.
-
Not only does that teach them to lie, it teaches them to pretend like they believe that lie. Which is a whole other kind of lie all together. Because at some point they will know you are lying to them.
"If you don't believe in Santa he wont bring you a gift"
What kid wants to give up the bonus gift?
-
We teach our children to walk, to talk and then to lie. The saddest part of the Santa delusion, we teach them that the less fortunate are bad...they must be, Santa didn't bring them any presents. It is for this reason I did not perpetuate this lie.
-
@campasini "so what about god, do you tell your kids there is a god???"
An honest and informed parent tells their kids "No one knows if there's a god or gods or none at all. Be careful around people who say differently - they're willfully delusional...and play god themselves (to various degrees) in the 3rd person. But that's all my opinion. It's up to you to do your own research and draw your own conclusions. You are a free thinker. To ignore that fact, or give that up, makes you a slave."
-
it is the first lie our children learn apart from the easter bunny aswell very sad.
-
so what about god, do you tell your kids there is a god???
Thanks everyone
