  • Is it the earliest? Special cultural importance. I like the beautiful binding!

  • A private person donated the book to the Jesuits in 1769. In other words, the religious order got it for free. Now they want 9 million for the book. You'd figure the 6.25 million already raised would be enough. It's not. The Jesuits want more. This is how organized religion repays a nation that gave it several centuries of tax-free status--by holding hostage that nation's history for a better deal. And this in the midst of an economic recession. Any wonder why atheism is on the rise?
