Life threatening hockey hit from behind

Is it right that dark jersey #5 gets 5 minutes and a game misconduct while white jersey #3 gets a trip to the emergency room? This is recreation (house) league hockey in Dallas. Is this part of the game or revenge by a sore loser in a 6-0 blowout? You make the call.

@edawrigh I agree with you. What this player did was really stupid. He skates straight into the boards without checking his surroundings. But its still up to the defenceman to keep that kid safe. Finnish your check, but not from behind.

@edawrigh You still shouldn't hit someone in the back while they are going onto the boards. The best thing to do is wrap the your arm that you are holding your stick around the player and "hug' him into the boards. Yes the guy with the white jersey should've approached the boards at an angle, but you cant just full out a player from behind.

@Truhamms you have obviously never played the game higher than rec hockey. i played high levels of juniors, college and currently getting scouted from minor league teams. First off, when going into the end boards like that you need to be prepared for a big collision. in the video the player in the white started slowing up when getting close to the end boards.. what he was trying to do was cut back to the "left" to side step the hit. he learned the hard way not to go into the end boards like that

the guy that got hit, was scared to get hit. he tried turning away from the hit. good play by the kid that followed through on him.

@mjbruce11 the kid also sees the player and turns his back to the play when the other player already was preparing to deliver the hit. You either dont play hockey or you play at a really low level because this hit was both players faults... you cant say this was dirty because it was inevitable once the one kid turned his back after seeing the other player prepare to deliver the hit
