Saakashvili contented with The Ask Your Government survey results

19.10.11

Nothing has recently made me so happy as the survey results by the Centre for Law and Democracy", President Saakashvili told the representatives of the state apparatus at the meeting held in the president`s palace in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

The president said, according to the survey Georgia takes second position after Zealand among 80 world countries in the rating testing access to the budget information.

"The survey precisely depicts the achievements the Georgia`s state apparatus has. This success was caused by the reforms we are carrying out", he said.

Saakashvili said everyone should think about where we were 6-7 years ago and where we are now; how the police worked years ago, what kind of situation is in new Houses of Justice today, which foreign visitors always find amazing.

"When I asked you few years ago to make exhibitions in order to show the population what each state office does, many of you found it quite surprising then. The purpose of my idea was to have you worked out a habit, that you serve the people", the president said.

He added changing staff is a painful process and the state has much more careful approach to the issue now.

"I have invited you here today because we should take care not of maintaining the success already achieved, but permanently go forward in these terms. Everything is being done in the country on behalf of the people, and the people have supported the course at several election polls. But as soon as we stop moving, everything will go into swamp", Saakashvili said.

He said standing side-by-side is a main component for effective work of state structures.
The survey results published by the Center for Law and Democracy have nominated Georgia as the second most successful country among the 80 others. In the ratings of the budget information availability Georgia has the second best result after New Zealand.
The survey was conducted by several international organizations.

The Ask Your Government! 6 Question Campaign - was the name of the campaign, in the fames of which the researcher organizations requested information from various budgetary structures, without being notified about the survey in advance
