Driving to Winter Park from Boulder via Highway I-40 on the morning of Saturday, January 6th, 2007, at approximately 10:30 a.m., we rolled up on an avalanche that had just occurred within minutes before. We were about 16 miles away from Winter Park and were one of the 1st vehicles to approach the avalanche. Being from Houston, TX, this was obviously a sight for me since I never see snow much less 15 ft of it covering the entire road. Wow. Fortunately, I don't think there were any serious injuries or deaths.
This is the 1st video of three total. There were no paramedics or authorities on the scene at this point. People were just starting to get out of there cars and view this spectacle. Several individuals were attempting to render aid to a couple of cars that had been swept off the roadway and over the guardrail. The only one I could see was upside down and had slid a few hundred feet down the embankment.
