I recently got a hurdy gurdy and am learning how to play it. Here is a French dance tune I don't know the name of. This Hurdy was made by George Leverett of Oregon.

  • hello i m arturo from chile im interested to buy a leverett hurdy gurdy is this hurdy the same gipsy model ? for sale in the web site it costs around $1,300 it has a really good sound i want the same one how much did you pay for this regards ( see my videos )

  • @santororock

Hi, yes this is that same model. I too paid $1,300 for this one. He's the most inexpensive maker out there, but makes really nice instruments! Cheers from the US!

  • Seriously awesome. I have been fascinated by hurdy gurdys ever since I was a teenager and saw it used in the Led Zeppelin reunion (Page and Plant) in the mid-late 90's. Great sounding instrument, and great playing! I'm amazed at the quality of Leverett's instruments. And they're affordable to boot! I'm definitely getting one. Was there an upcharge for cherry wood? The darker wood is more appealing for sure.

  • @samwestonpotter

Hey, no extra charge for cherry. He takes whatever wood he has available to order...

  • That sounds great! and with a suprisingly low sounding trompette.

I just got my first hurdy gurdy at the start of this month (its a Neil Brook) and haveing real fun with it. how long have you been playing?

  • Thanks! I got it before Christmas sometime, so a few months. Happy playing with yours!

  • Amzing I wish I can play that Instrument to but I can play Accordion ^_^

  • Sounds great. I just ordered the same gurdy - even down to the c-holes! I've never played one in my life, so I hope it's not too hard to pick up! Keep on playing!

  • This is amazing! Hope you will publish some new videos soon (I'm fond of hurdy gurdy)

  • Thanks for commenting. I LOVE George Leverett's work! It is beautiful (I got cherry wood) to look at and easy to play. Besides, George is the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. He and his wife really take joy in making these, and it shows. I definitely recommend getting one. And the waiting list is not so long compared to other hurdy gurdy makers. I've tuned this one down a fourth, just because I like the mellower sounds a gurdy can make. So normally they come in g/c and I tuned it to d/g
