great local food video! I live in West Oakland and I'm very familiar with some of the desolate run down buildings in your footage. I've taken over an empty lot on Center St. and have been farming it for five years.... where there was once just weeds now there is fruit trees, clover, Kale, honeybees and a place for neighbors to meet. Gardens bring a diversity of life and healing to this diverse community.

Let's not get too much on our high horse. Vegan IS the most sustainable way to eat, but even, then we kill animals in our vegetable fields!! Anything that supports local, sustainable and kind farming & eating should get a thumbs up!! Thanks for that!

neither do they know or want to know how many animals get killed in crop growing. torn apart by machinery, trapped, shot and poisoned so as not to eat '' our '' food.

horrendous amounts. then there is the shortage of arable land which would mean shipping food to many places where nothing much grows but the land is suitable for grazing.the carbon foot print of shipping i high.

Correct! Going to a previous system will not sustain the masses - There's not enough land and the impacts both to human health, the earth AND the nonhumans is still the same.

Eating a plant based diet is just as nutritious - Without all the negatives. "Small" scale will only eventually lead to more factory farms as industries try to compete using cheaper prices. Go vegan! THAT is "forward" thinking!

Love the urban gardens! But, I hope this series will show the slaughter house aspect of "grass fed cattle" as well....if we are keeping it real and back to nature, the killing of the animals is part of the deal too, but people aren't generally shown that aspect of their "food."
