EXTRACT FROM 'CALEDONIA UBER ALLES' FANZINE INTERVIEW WITH EDWARD BALL OF THE TIMES UK POP GROUP, 1985(UNPUBLISHED)
CUA; What do you think of bands like the TVPs and the Pastels?
EB; I've known Dan nearly all my logical life and i've played on those early singles so, you know, it's great. And i've met Stephen Pastel and he's very lovely. But i'm really into something a bit More intense these days - a British playwright called Steven Berkoff - a sort of punk Harold Pinter. "West" perhaps makes the most sense to people in bands - it's about rival gangs in North London, but they speak Shakespearean cockney - they say things like " I see you now, straining like greyhounds in their traps at Haringay" or "What should i fear when i now sense a giant strolling in my veins" - it's fucking wild!
How did you get this film?
