In the prime of Harry Reids day, "negro" was a polite term.

if a republican would have said it would have been the end of the world and the MSM would have happily gone after the repub.......and those RINOs would have gone around apologizing....
-
i agree with george will... what reid is saying is that america would not elect a black democrat the shade of yaphet koto.
-
Perhaps the question is how would such remarks be recieved if a Republican had made them? Lest you think this is purely theoretical, lets recall the very different experiences of Trent Lott and Senator Dodd.
What do you think would happen to a Republican with Senator Byrd's past?
-
this isnt racism. harry reid is a smart individual that is pointing out the countries racism. not his own.

"This has already drawn a lot of criticism, so let's just fan the flames of a non-story because we think that's the reason why you sit through commercials". PUKE.

@badtown88 NO it's not total bull. You just admitted it yourself that I'M RIGHT on economic issues. As far as social issues, give me a break, no one who's "center right" in this country believes in govn't run healthcare, paying for someone else's abortion, and disrespecting basic Judeo-Christian beliefs and values. They might not agree with it but they respect it. Pelosi and Reid do nothing of the sort. Also, just because you throw the F-bomb at me doesn't make your case stronger.
-
Total bullshit. Far left economically, yes. Socially the Democrats don't speak for any liberals, and you can take that to the fucking bank, my friend. They are a party running scared and they're scared of the theocratic fascists in the GOP. The fact that the majority of this retarded country believes Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are liberals sickens me.
-
@badtown88 To say the Democratic Party is center-right at this point is absurd at best. Center-right as compared to what? Tyranny? This is the farthest left the Democratic Party has been probably since Wilson and FDR.

I'm not a fan of either of the Cheney's but Liz is right in this case. If a white republican senator said that about Obama the media would've gone crazy demanding his resignation. Hypocrisy at it's finest!
Harry Reid used some outdated terminology, but for once George Will is right. Reid was objectively discussing aspects of Obama's marketability as a candidate, not making a personal judgement about him. Any political stategist would have said the same thing and no doubt did.

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man" - Joe Biden (February 2007)
