my friend... parrots are intelligent... means : they listen like we do...and they can talk...to you ! she is asking something in her own way (language) their intelligence is above many animals !! so, think this ...: they can listen...they can talk... (why not ?) that is what I really think. love all your videos !

Watch my bird videos!!:))

@kiliparrot Also her bird would make that sound for about 3 seconds with more vigor and volume. It got to be pretty annoying after awhile. She just seemed to grow out of it. I hope this helps.

@kiliparrot I don't know what the Senegal's want when they make this sound but my friend took her baby senegal home from the aviary and she made this exact sound and movement of the wings. I assumed it is a baby to parent response. Her bird did this to her over and over for the first 2 weeks and then quickly slowed down and stopped. She would make this sound and behavior more often with my friend than with me even though she had spent more time with me in the beginning.

my senegal when he was like a few months old maybe a year started doing that thing with his wings putting them down, making his eyes look vicious, and instead of that noise he made a lower type of one, now he just moves his beak real fast and tries to throw up

@jerrysenegalparrot Never got a definitive answer from youtube users, vet, or parrot behavior specialist. However, the consensus seems to be that it is a unique form of hormonal behavior. Once I found out from the vet that it couldn't be illness, I relaxed and didn't give it attention. In fact I ignored her whenever it happened and it went away over time, hasn't come back since. Truman (Cape Parrot) does something sort of similar and it's more of a baby hunger food begging behavior but differen

She definitely wants something. Have you tried giving a neck skritch when she does that?
I make kiss sounds to my red belly parrot and she makes kiss sounds to me when she wants attention.
Given that Kili associates the clicker sound with attention, she may be letting you know that she's a good girl or suggesting that you bring the clicker out for more fun.

@vwlpaige10 She hasn't done it in a few months so I suspect it was hormonal. Your proposition doesn't make sense because she would specifically start doing this when she had my attention. If I was ignoring her, she would just sit still and do her own thing. It was only if I looked at her or picked her up that she would start doing this. From everything I've learned it seems like it is some form of expression of mating behavior.

Uhmmm... my meyer parrot Zoey (male) heared your clip and spontaneously started to make the same noise. Minus the wingmovements though. But he stopped now. Just imitating I guess.

That doesn't rule out that it is a mating behavior. Your parrot may already have this mating behavior and was just responding rather than imitating to the sound of it. This is why it is difficult to determine what is pure imitation and what holds a mating undertone. BTW, she hasn't done it in a few weeks now (and she had been doing it for over a month every day before) so it makes me think that the hormonal period has ended. Imitating vocalizations would still remain in her repertoire.
