BNSF Dash-9 locomotives are leading Intermodal train out of the longest tunnel in the US, the Cascade Tunnel, West Portal on 9.22.09. at Scenic, Washington.
The Cascade Tunnel is a 7.8-mile (12.5 km) long single-track railroad tunnel at Stevens Pass through the Cascades approximately 65 miles (105 km) to the east of Everett, Washington. It is the longest railroad tunnel in the United States and was constructed by the Great Northern Railway, being put in service on January 12, 1929.

  • NO, there is no door on west side, only on east side of the tunnel.

  • That is a very TIGHT fit for thoes stackers. They had to alter so many other tunnels because of doubles by chipping the tops. Is it chipped away like that ALLLL the way through, or just the enterances?
