the water level doesn't reach the gearbox or the mag, so i guess it's not that bad for the gun.

I wouldn't say plastic... they wouldn't be able to stand that much wear. Maybe polymer.

is it true that this gun has plastic gears. if not, then did the gears rust afterwards?

If it does, its most likey a Poly Carbonate, STAR co. uses this in their airsoft guns, however, Poly Carbonate, a type of plastic, is stronger than metal, used in traditional gearboxes.
