RAILECT is a collaboration between EU companies and research organisations, partly funded by the EU under the FP7 framework, with the objective to develop and produce a novel "clamp-on" ultrasonic testing device and ultrasonic defect analysis software for the volumetric examination of aluminothermic rail welds.
The video shows the clamp and phased array ultrasonic transducers effectively inspecting the weld and the ultrasonic defect detection software successfully analysing the data for internal volumetric defects that could not be identified from the usual visual inspection.
The Consortium originally consisted of 8 partners from 5 EU member states of whom three of the SME and one of the research partners are attempting to bring the Railect system to market.
