Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc Across India

After a long dry spell, heavy rains disrupt normal life in various parts of India. And many residents are struggling to cope with the flooding.




The incessant rains in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh caused a bridge to break, leading to flooding in the region. It has disrupted transport services, and flooded nearby villages.

The villagers are battling to survive and save their goods.

[Archana, Resident]:




"When the water flooded, the buffalo started drowning and the cart got unbalanced and we started floating in the water. We held the children up. Then, one of our brothers came and helped us catch hold of a tree. We had to climb the tree. We kept sitting on the tree for a very long time."

Rescue workers managed to save some people.

[Rupchand, Police Inspector]:
"We got the rescue equipment and reached the spot... When we arrived there were about nine people - three men, three women and three children. We helped them to get down from a tree, and took them to safety."

Floods also affected parts of the state of Bengal. Around 300-400 families have been affected by the floods.

[Rajendra Raj Sundas, Block Development Officer]:
"We have given relief including money to the affected families. We will also help repair the damaged houses."

Flood victims received some food assistance, but they say it's not enough.

In the state of Gujarat, the rains continued to pour over the past 24 hours.




The monsoon hit India's southern tip on May 31, a day ahead of schedule, which happens to be the indicator of the rainy season for the entire country.

I feel either it's Pakistan OR India.. when innocent lives are lost its sad. I just feel that the Indian comments on Pakistani flood videos are so shocking that it feels as if those behind computer screens are just either not following their own teachings of peace if that's what they preach but still it's sad. when you see other human being in pain, atleast pray for them.
