Rejecting the "White Privilege" Theory

No one doubts that racism exists in the United States and elsewhere around the world, nor do we deny that people of color have been subjugated by white people. To deny slavery, the Jim Crow laws, and segregation is arrogant and frankly idiotic. This does not mean that every theory that emerges, which attempts to create a model for understanding racism in America, is to be accepted as the truth. Further, some ideas, many of which pervade in contemporary racial discourse, are actually doing more harm that good.

The white privilege idea is creating more divisiveness and pushing the races apart. It perpetuates suspicion and hostility, and is shutting down dialogue that is essential to continuing reparations. Whites need to understand that they DO have a choice, that they DO NOT have to buy into white privilege, and that they DO have the right--an obligation--to express their disagreement. They should do so, not because they wish to be combative and argumentative, but because the white privilege rhetoric is dividing far more than it is uniting. If a fully integrated society that is free of discrimination is truly our objective, we must come to realize that we will never achieve it as long as this destructive and dangerous rhetoric is allowed to poison our dialogue.

@marmegaxxx, actually, white privilege is a false, made-up, fabricated, illusion that is perpetuated by the multi-billion dollar diversity industry in this country. Diversity training alone is an industry that rakes in $8 billion annually. That does not include the billions brought in by the likes of Jackson, Sharpton and Farrakhan. The white privilege lie has turned these crooks into millionaires, and "white privilege" is their golden goose. It will never die as long it keeps laying eggs. ~MID

And no one ever said ALL WHITE PEOPLE are hateful. But White privilege does exist and it's not just monetary. And I can understand Whites not wanting to give up power and privilege they got from colonialism. But this is talking about things on a collective view. But when they speak of White privilege some use it in a way that is meant to attack and that is not what I do. I'm a Black man who has a kid with a White woman so I understand your folks. The thing is you don't maynot understand us.

@MarxIsDead I feel like you're missing the point. Statistically, it's proven that whites make more than ethnic minorities in the same job description with the same qualifications by about 10%. This kind of treatment, that parallels to ethnic minorities not only in the job arena, shows a level of favoritism toward whites. It's this form of structural racism that he is acknowledging. It's not white people themselves but the system that oppresses ethnic minorities. And by that white are elevated.

@marmegaxxx Your definition of "White Privilege" is the correct definition. I condemn and abhor this theory because aside from its lack of truth/legitimacy, it seeks unfair handouts from the government which harm the economy and have no effect on minorities except for making them lazy because they no longer have to work to achieve, but can now defy the world's nature, and achieve without needing to conscientiously try.
