March 8, 2010: 4:15 PM ET --- The major U.S. equity indices closed mixed Monday after trading in a narrow range on M&A news and as investors remained cautious after a seven-day winning streak. In corporate news, McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) shares rose 2.6% after the company reported better-than-expect same-store sales for February. For stores open at least a year, sales rose 4.8%. Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) shares rose 6.1% after an analyst upgraded the stock on expectations that the company will report strong quarterly results and issue strong guidance. Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) shares rose 3.1% after JP Morgan (NYSE:JPM) assumed coverage of the stock with an "overweight" rating. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) closed 0.13% lower at 10,552.52, the S&P500 (INX) closed 0.02% lower at 1,138.50, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) closed 0.25% higher at 2,332.21.
