WILLIAM P. DEVEREAUX is a highly successful and well-respected criminal lawyer who leads the Pannone Lopes Devereaux & West LLC Criminal and Health Care Teams. Mr. Devereaux routinely handles complicated and high-profile criminal matters and was the first attorney in the United States to successfully negotiate a "Deferred Prosecution Agreement" for a health care provider. He represents individuals and corporations in the public, private, not-for-profit and nonprofit sectors, including hospitals, health care systems, clinical facilities and physicians. His experience includes white-collar criminal defense and complex litigation at the State and Federal level.
Mr. Devereaux is experienced in dealing with the Department of Justice, the HHS Office of Inspector General and Office of Civil Rights, Medicare fiscal intermediaries, state and federal prosecutors and Medicaid agencies in defending his clients with respect to criminal matters, enforcement actions, investigations and agency audits. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Devereaux served as a lawyer for the Judge Advocate General and as a Rhode Island Assistant Attorney General during which time he prosecuted against organized crime, environmental violations and served as supervising attorney during Grand Jury investigations. He is a retired Captain in the United States Naval Reserve.
Mr. Devereaux earned his J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University. He is admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, U.S. District Court, First Circuit and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals for the Armed Forces. He has been a U.S. Navy Reservist since 1979.
