@heystupidopenthedoor And I know exactly where you come from on that previous stance. Much like people who say guns don't kill people, it's the person behind it. But even still that logic applies to everything. Humans are the central cause behind nearly every harmful act that is based off an idea or use of an object. And it IS a moot point. Have you even read some of what your bible has stated? I'm sure you've heard this one before, but have you actually REALLY looked into it?

@heystupidopenthedoor Where has an Atheist ever used Atheism to glorify a gruesome act? I've never heard a story where someone were to kill someone in the name of Atheism. Religion is the Love in Love and Hate? Really? I'm sorry, but that is one of the most egotistical statements I've ever heard. What, are you going to call me a Devil-Worshiper next?

@smbz1 Yes, people use religion to glorify acts, but so do Atheists. I believe one way, you another. Religion is much like love in the two sides of it. Love and hate cannot exist without one another much like Religion and Atheism. And to call my point moot, means you clearly did not understand where I was coming from.

@heystupidopenthedoor Yet people use religion to glorify these acts or to make them seem just and right. Though your point about religion itself not being able to kill you is a moot one at best. That applies to any ideology or any inanimate object. It's what people make use of the mindset that is what's dangerous. A person who has been taught to disregard any other idea or say that theirs is the ultimate truth can disrupt a persons mindset.

@smbz1 No, that's wrong. Religion it's self cannot kill you. People use it as an excuse to commit such violent and horrid acts. Christianity cannot it's self stab you, Islam cannot behead you, and Judaism cannot drive you to the sea. Man used Religion as an excuse. I'll point to Constantine for an example. He said to the man that was going to Baptize him, "Wait until I am on my death bed, that is when I will need it the most." He conquered in the name of Christianity.

@heystupidopenthedoor Religion actually is the cause of a lot of these though, actually. The Muslims and the Jews have always been acting violent with each other pretty much since the Middle East was established. Christianity, on the other hand, plays a different role. Christianity now days doesn't really start wars, but it has a part in a huge amount of the hate and fear. Whether it deals with your sexuality, race, beliefs, or political views, Extremists can ruin even the greatest of things.

@smbz1 I know dozens of Atheists say that Religion is the cause of war, hate, murder, rape, and a myriad of other injustices. Now, in the case of Islam, that may be the case, but not in the case of Christianity or Judaism. I have argued this many times and argued that religion is merely abused as a justification for such atrocities. God is not responsible. Man is responsible because some have put themselves before God and before doing what is right. Instead of what is right, we do what is easy.

Where have you ever heard an Atheist say that only Religion causes war? I sure haven't heard that. As an Atheist myself, I know wars can be triggered due to many other factors, not just Religion. A point we Atheists try to get across though is that Religion is one of the major factors to war. It's true, Religion has helped us with many things, but religion is like a tricycle. Once you're grown up, you don't need the extra wheels. The extra wheels to me, are Religion.
