Indeed an interesting trek across the Pennines, starting off on one of Britain's greatest mainlines and ending up on the other. My original intention was to go to Leeds to catch some of the recently transferred Northern Class 322's. As it turned out, Leeds was dead and the 322's were sitting around in the depot north of the station. So, since another great railway centre was just down the line, I though, why not? It has been indeed an interesting day at York, with a reminisce of home in the form of the hired First Great Western set as well as Cross Country services, Here's what went about:
12:21 XC Voyager 220XXX Edinburgh - Southampton Central
12:22 XC Voyager 221XXX Plymouth - Glasgow Central
12:28 East Coast Electra 91101 - 82205 London Kings Cross - Newcastle
12:35 XC Voyager 221XXX Newcastle - Plymouth
12:42 Northern Sprinter 150141 - 150211 Harrogate - York
12:46 First TPE Desiro 185150 Newcastle - Manchester Airport
12:51 XC Voyager 220XXX Penzance - Aberdeen
13:01 East Coast HST 43311 - 206 Inverness - London Kings Cross

13:13 Northern Sprinter 150211 - 141 York - Harrogate
13:17 First TPE Desiro 185117 Middlesbrough - Manchester Airport
13:22 First Great Western HST 43041 - 163 Newcastle - London Kings Cross
13:27 British Rail English Electric Type 1 20096 - 142 Northbound RHTT
13:31 Grand Central HST 43468 - 43465 London Kings Cross - Sunderland
13:35 East Coast Electra 91128 - 82222 London Kings Cross - York
13:39 East Coast Electra 91106 - 82223 London Kings Cross - Edinburgh
13:42 XC Voyager 220XXX Plymouth - Edinburgh
13:48 East Coast HST 43318 - 320 Dundee - London Kings Cross
13:53 Grand Central HST 43467 - 423 Sunderland - London Kings Cross
13:54 East Coast HST 43319 - 300 London Kings Cross - Aberdeen
13:57 East Coast Electra 82222 - 91128 York - London Kings Cross
Certainly a place I recommend visiting if you're in the mood for varying amounts of traction and liveries. Today saw First Great Western, Trans Pennine Express, Grand Central, East Coast, National Express and GNER liveries as well as good old fashioned BR Blue.
Great Vid I Go up to York quiet often, but go with Grandparents so never get to Train Spot

@VirginTrain1 Thanx! This was the first time I'd been to York since October 2009. Even then, that was on a Grand Central HST. Sadly the rafters of York don't echo to the sound of Valenta's any more.
