Julia tells Barnabas she hypnotized Maggie, and it was successful. Barnabas is still nervous, but Julia threatens to expose him if he harms Maggie. Once she has left, Barnabas decides he must kill Maggie the following night. This is the scene where she lights her cigarette on the candelabra like a boss.
Julia made a mistake I wish they had covered... Barnabas is a Vampire one of the undead. but Vampire or not he is a human who just happens to be a Vampire so using that line of thinking if Julia told the world what Barnabas is then she would be sacrificing Barnabas a Human. which she said she would never do he may not be a normal human but he is still human.

I always liked how they announce Barnabas' presence by showing his hand with the ring. From 2:20 until the end, it's interesting to see Barnabas not so in control of things.

@heula1 Not really. Dark Shadows was a one-off, with more money and more talent put into it that any of the others.
Soaps had a second renaissance in the 80's with Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest, and the other night time dramas. We got to see Jane Wyman and Lana Turner doing their thing again! The stories were silly, of course, but clever in their own way. And the performances were top notch.

This was back in the day when soaps hired actors of high caliber, instead of cheap, convenient hair models with no acting training or experience.
