60163 Tornado Cathedrals Express from Kings Cross to York on 26th September seen arriving at Peterborough and making dramatic departure with sound of the 3 cylinder echoing across the city as loco gets the all clear for the fast line just about as passes a poxy MTU gets in the way. Then we see it arriving back at Peterborough in the early evening.
first class shot as she pulled out,,, talking of acceleration,,, I cought her leaving P/borough,,, and went into FreeMans car park Ivatt way and set the tripod up on top of the van roof, to get over the fence,,, thinking its less than half a mile from a standing start at the station,, so she would only just be getting into her stride, but how wrong I was she came storming up, judge for your self she must be doing 45 at least,, I need to google the location and get a distance realy,

That is mighty impressive acceleration with such a heavy load! Whoever was driving her, had a beautiful feel for the engine. It looked like the regulator was eased back just the right amount to get traction, then reset v fast. I've often thought it would be worth while investing in a way to improve adhesion (rather than just blasting sand on to the rails) so that steam engines like Tornado could really show what they could do.
She showed it wasn't a one off at the end of the clip!!
