Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is a loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel which was already made into a movie: 1982 Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Blade Runner was recently voted "best science fiction movie of all time"
We started that project back in 2007, when we shot the first scenes in Paris La Defense. 2 years later, having already made two short-movies, we decided to go on with that film and reshot entirely the first 2 scenes to give them a better look and a grander scale.
Scene 1 was shot on location in Bangkok in October 2009 but also features images of Singapore and Dubai airports as well as various locations in Chambon-la-Forêt and Rigarda (France). This was probably the most challenging scene i have ever shot due to the intense crowd in Bangkok and various logistics problems I had to deal with in order to give the scene a particular and futuristic mood. Music is by Vangelis.
Scene 2 was entirely shot in one evening in the thirteenth district of Paris, in early July of 2009. Music is by japanese composer Kentarō Haneda.
Editing took place between Bangkok and Pithiviers, whenever I had time and energy. Further development on that project is already scheduled.

  • If I may, i'd like to work edit the vid a bit. While it's great, i'd like to add some really stylistic colour grading and other effects to it.

  • @smoothymcgyver > no problem. But please make sure you include me in the credits. I'm curious to see the result ! I wish I could give you the original high definition edit I've still got on my computer. At the time I uploaded the video on youtube, the 720p and 1080p were not available. Good luck!

  • Dude, no offense, but taking the title of Phillip K Dicks book and the music from Blade Runner and then making something which isn't really connected to either is just setting people up for disappointment.

It's like advertising your band as the Rolling Stones and then coming out on stage by yourself bashing away on a biscuit tin.

  • @Nothefaceyoubitch No offense taken... This is YOUR opinion and happily not the opinion of all "people" since you mentioned them ! Hence the positive reviews... This is a difficult thing to do you know.... Why dont you try and propose your own version ? So i can be disappointed, or not.

  • You have some well staged wide angle shots. But the thing I think you have missed is the misty mood and claustrophobic feel. I would shoot tighter, and darker. Sun lit images should be hazy and flared. Scot used a lot of smoke and always backlit.

  • sweet umbrella

  • boring.. very boring, nice try

  • @Thetacticalcorner > You probably mean "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" and I thought this one was boring... So as you can see it's all a matter of point of view. Were the Sci-Fi movies better in the 70's, 80's and 90's ? Agreed. Does it mean there's no good Sci-Fi anymore? No

  • @Thetacticalcorner > from 2000 ? The Fountain, Moon, Inception, Pandorum, Minority Report, Cloverfield, Sunshine, Children of men... these movies come to mind ! what do you think? Hope you enjoyed my videos...

  • @Bullettube > haha... actually i was born and raised in Paris and i'm currently working in Bangkok so that explains why ! The vision of cities you're refering to was one the topic of Houellebecq's "The possibility of an island"... Interesting but very unlikely ! As is K Dick's vision of a future world (or really really far future...) touring asian big cities gives a clue as to what could tomorrow's world look like: a vertical world, with many layers, cities inside cities, billions of people
