The Colorado Highlanders Pipe Band perform at the Concert in The Pines, this year a part of the annual Grand Lake Snowshoe Festival on January 19, 2008. This was their first appearance at the Grand Lake Community House.
Since their debut in 2000, many accomplished bagpipers and drummers have joined the group, including a great deal of youth musicians from the county.
Today's members include Mark Daniel (pipe major), Marc Hann (piper), Denise Robertson (piper), Holly Peck (piper), Nick O'Connor (apprentice piper), and in the drum section: Ryan Gallagher (drum sergeant), snare drummers Ethan Daniel and Noah Ralph, and bass drummer Simon O'Connor.
The Colorado Highlanders Pipe Band encourages new members to join, and urges "closet pipers" to get those instruments out of storage and join in the experience. The group practices at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evenings in the Middle Park High School band room. Daniel says "It is always fun to be a part of these events and to contribute to our communities."
This year's Snowshoe Festival events (an annual Grand Lake event) included a 5k Snowshoe race and a Kid's Snowshoe race, a free tour at the Kaufmann House which included an old fashion snow shoe display , the concert, a moonlight cross country/snow shoe ski, a free geo cache challenge and free sleigh rides out at Winding River Resort . Don't miss next year's event.
