I personally think it's about him trying to convince a "lover" to not live there, hence "I can't see why you'd want to live here."
But to each his own, I suppose. =]

This could be a love song or a song about how much he hates LA, either way everything he says about LA is very true and although I find this song to be truthful i still love LA even with all its flaws. I would think Ben Gibbard is the same way seeing as he lives in LA.
