The corn harvest not only came early in some places, but some of the crop by-passed the local elevator and was delivered straight to the Iowa State Fair. Enjoy the tall corn contest at Pioneer Hall.

  • we needs more event like this.

  • Clarence Anderson (the winner) looks like Dick Cheney.

  • This contest is really who can grow the tallest corn stalk by the 2nd week of August, not who can grow the tallest stalk by the end of October.

  • my dads is 20ft right now and still growing .

  • I have grown 16 feet tall in Ohio. We have spots of rich black soil ("carlisle muck") that is high in organic matter.

Goliath Silo corn (from Shumway's seed) is good. If you can find it, Jala Landrace Maize is even better.

THe fellow who won is probably talking about Goliath Silo or something similar. Open pollinated will not be consistent (one stalk a stub and the next one 16 feet)

Great fun.... but as shown - hard to transport without breaking !!!!

  • to corn boy
