When planting potatoes in containers, should I wait until the green tops start growing before adding more soil like you did when you planted in the ground?

Unlike other people that don't apreciate things at face value and find something wrong with every thing. There are lots of people that apreciate your advice. Thanks and I know you are too inteligent to be discuraged by tontos, thanks again. I can't wait to try the ones in the container. Alex

is it bad to put it to deep?

yes. You only want to have a few inches of soil over them to start and then keep adding soil as they grow, leaving the top 4-6 inches of leaves showing until they flower.

First off you do NOT have to buy seed potatoes you can make your own, its not hard. People make gardening much harder than it has to be, and expensive when it most cvertainly does not have to be. Anyone can grow potatoes and in most any container and any condition with limited expence. I guess you can spend tons when you work for a comany that pays you to --shrugs

There is no huge company that pays us. we are a very small production company that produces the TV show. The hosts and the people we interview are in the gardening industry (with years of experience). They have seen what works and what doesn't. We give tips the have the best chance of success for the average gardener.

There are a number of reasons for having no potatoes. not enough sunny, too much water, too cold of conditions. One of ours was the same. a couple of potatoes and lots of green. The other was great, a dozen potatoes. The only difference was the amount of water. We missed one container for a week or so. This is the weird thing about gardening, sometime we are successful and sometimes we are not. Sorry.
