Walter Röhrl & I: in a Porsche GT3 (997 MKII) on the Nürburgring Nordschleife - May 27th, 2009

Walter & I: in-car camera of the best race track in the world: the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the man who o.k.'s every new Porsche that leaves the Porsche factories.
If you do not know who Walter Röhrl is, just google him. Nuff said.
This was a childhood dream come true. I never expected to ever meet the man, much less to spend a lap with him on his playground.
I have done everything, I ever wanted to do in my life.

for all the experts out there who have been at the ring:
we did a timed lap of about 7:25 minutes. I substracted about 6 seconds for the traffic we hit and the delayed acceleration after the bilstein bridge. At Schwedenkreuz we hit 260 kph right before the 100kph turn into Aremberg. at the end of Fuchsröhre we hit 240kph.
The funny thing is, I was wearing a helmet, he was not...

I think I've watched this 20 times, it really is the best instruction. Walter must be the only driver in the world who at Wehrseifen on those short 5mtrs between the first right hander and the subsequent 180 degree left manages to accelerate again briefly and then execute a flawless heel-toe downshift from 3 to 2. I always struggle to simply keep the car on track under braking and do the heel-toe bit, to be able to step on the gas there as well - man, that's driving a form of art....

I was thinking the same thing while he was going through wehrseifen: he was on the gas pedal before the turn??!!!!??

I would be on the brakes stabilizing my car, where he finds the time to accelerate again... :-)

he showed up during a driver training. a german car magazine called "sport auto" organized the event.

Walter Röhr my youth hero and the best Rally-Driver ever... He could have my car at anytime for a lap around the nordschleife. I love this track.
