M/S Allure of the Seas cruise ship is a sister of the world's largest passenger ship, Oasis of the Seas. She carries nearly 6,300 passengers at full occupancy, in 2,700 cabins. The keel of the Allure of the Seas was laid 2nd of December 2008.

The ship's power comes from six marine diesel engines, three Wärtsilä 16-cylinder diesel engines producing 18,860 kilowatts (25,290 hp) each, and three similar 12-cylinder engines each producing 13,860 kilowatts (18,590 hp). The total output of these prime movers, some 97,020 kilowatts (130,110 hp), is converted to electricity, used in hotel power for operation of the lights, elevators, electronics, galleys, water treatment plant, and all of the other systems used on the operation of the vessel, as well as propulsion

  • Obviously the engine room guy from the Nimitz was here.... someone thumbed it down.

  • @2008FORDF450V8 If you have a TWIC card and a Merchant Marine Credential they may show you around. Otherwise your gonna have to be a real good sweet talker.

  • @Franko94 That's not even an electrical plug. It's a remote control, probably for a crane.

  • finland perfomance ;)

  • can you take a tour of the engine of a cruise ship or not?

  • Fascinating to see what powers those amazing ships. I cannot believe how clean it is!!!

  • imagine revving those things?!

  • if u pull the plug at 1:05 it will shut the whole ship off

  • @ldow2000, it's not a defect. The ship is 360 metres long, so heating it up by 10°C will lengthen it about 5 cm. Also, with ships as big as that you have to accept certain tolerances - while the rule length is 360 m, the actual length is something close to that.

  • I'm sorry, but I believe you meant to say that Allure of the Seas is the largest passenger ship in the world, and is the sister to Oasis of the Seas. I believe the Allure's captain proved that although they were supposed to be the same, a defect made Allure somewhere from 5mm to 5cm's longer!
