CELEBRITY SUBSTANCE

Although Brad Pitt is one of the highest paid actors (number 9 on Forbes Top 100 list), he also supports many charities, giving away millions of dollars a year to charities all around the world. Some of those charities include the ONE Campaign to fight AIDS in developing nations, Not on our Watch; an organization that aims to prevent genocide in countries like Darfur.

He has also created his own charitable organization and foundations to help various causes. In 2006, Pitt created the Make it Right Foundation. The foundation was put together after Pitt visited New Orleans and saw the devastation after hurricane Katrina. Pitt wanted to make affordable green housing that would clean up the area and allow residents to move back into their neighborhood. The foundation, according to their website, acts as a catalyst for redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward, by building a neighborhood comprised of safe and healthy homes that are inspired by Cradle to Cradle thinking, with an emphasis on a high quality of design, while preserving the spirit of the community's culture.

In March 2009, Pitt met with President Barack Obama and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss his Make it Right Foundation. He was there to promote his plans to make cheap, green housing in New Orleans 9th Ward as a national model and possible federal funding for the intiative.

Brad Pitt, along with partner Angelina Jolie also started the Jolie-Pitt Foundations in 2006. Since they began this foundation, they have donated millions of dollars to organizations like Global Action for Children and Doctors without Borders. They recently donated $1 million dollars to a U.N refugee agency.

Pitt is also one of the founding members of Not on our Watch, an organization that helps bring world recognition and resources to try and stop genocide in developing countries, like Darfur. Matt Damon, George Clooney, Don Cheadle, and Jerry Weintraub are also involved.

Although the tabloids like to spew out negative images of Pitt and his relationship with Angelina Jolie, as well as, try to exploit their children, Pitt continues to do great things for his country as well as around the world.
