In comparson to this, today's historical epics look like something you pick up at the end of a pair of tweezers. Hollywood has lost the ability to mount intelligent historical epics.

@msinvincible2000 i totally agree with you on that score,

A very underrated film the beautiful ELIZABETH TAYLOR the great RICHARD BURTON and the very polished REX HARRISON plus some other noteable actors of the day.It seems to me the critics of HOLLYWOOD didn't like haveing to do overtime [this is a very long film]so they panned it on mass so they could go home for the cocktail hour -HOWEVER it is much to long and a bit to much talk -BUT as a cinematic spectacle it has some very good set pieces and some EXCELLENT acting. Thanks for posting

Where is Titus Pullo? :D

It's a shame this movie is underrated by critics. On a scale of 1-10 in my opinion: 8.5! This film is pretty good.
RIP Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Rex Harrison (who I think should've won the Oscar).

This goes for 4 hours, I just watched it on TV.

Whenever I watch this, I always wonder if Rex Harrison's Caesar would ever say "Why can't a lady be more like a man?"

@blaq7427 I've always considered them BE's (Biblical Epics).
today an actress like Taylor would have not been casted unless she dropped at least 15 kg. I wish Hollywood went back to those standarts when women were curvy and pretty, and not just ugly skeletons

Obviously a very modest budget.
